Situated in Danville, Kentucky, the South Danville Bypass Safety Improvement project targets a critical 3.3-mile segment of US 150, stretching from Fireside Drive to Stanford Road. This major east-west arterial not only connects communities regionally, but also serves Danville’s major commercial areas. This section of the Danville Bypass has major trip attractors like Kroger, Starbucks, Lowe’s, and Walmart, drawing local traffic to the city.
The four-lane divided roadway experiences daily traffic volumes ranging from 13,600-23,100 vehicles. The Bypass divides commercial developments along the north and south, with limited crossing options, enhancing risk for vulnerable road users. Notably, the corridor is surrounded by underserved and historically disadvantaged communities.
The City of Danville is dedicated to ensuring safety for all users on the city’s streets and roads, and therefore is requesting federal funding to improve the Danville Bypass.
It was announced in September of 2024 that the City of Danville had been awarded $12,260,000 for the implementation of the South Danville Bypass Safety Improvements project. This grant will be matched by $2,570,000 from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and $500,000 from the City of Danville. Once the grant agreement is finalized, the City and KYTC will begin the design process including public input. This project is anticipated to be completed in 2029 with a total project budget of $15,330,000.
