Danville community celebrates Grand Reopening of Michael M Smith Memorial Park
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the City of Danville and the Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation Department celebrated the long-awaited reopening of Michael M Smith Memorial Park. The park is named in honor of late Michael M Smith, a compassionate community leader who served Danville for over 50 years as the owner - operator of Smith-Jackson Funeral Home.
After gathering community input and working with community organizations like the Danville-Boyle County African American Historical Society, the Rotary Club of Danville and the Arts Commission of Danville-Boyle County, the park's design creates a welcoming space, inviting all community members to enjoy!
The park now features a new playground and splashpad (which was a big hit during the celebration on June 8th)! Future plans include improved parking and additional amenities.
The Michael M Smith Memorial Park is on JE Woods Drive, off Second Street, and is now open and ready for play! Scroll photos below.
