Centre students propose Masterplan for Jackson Park

This Spring, Students in the "Making a Better Society" course, looked at some challenges facing our community. One particular group focused on the underutilized, Jackson Park. The park on Crosshill Road was considered "THE" City Park prior to the development of Millennium Park and has seen a decline in attendance over the last several years, being visited mostly for walking and disc golf.

Students worked with Director of Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation, Tommy Barton, and created a survey of community desires for the park. The survey shows that respondents would like to see better amenities at the park, like bathrooms and an outdoor exercise area, as well as tables, shelters and drinking fountains. Other offerings like programs and events also topped the "wish list" for the park. The students' work gives Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation much to consider as they look at creating a long-term plan for Jackson Park and continue their efforts to restoring and promoting Danville's many beautiful neighborhood parks.
