Kentucky Humanities, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, will be bringing the SPARK! Places of Innovation exhibit to Kentucky! This exhibit explores innovation and invention in rural communities and features diverse stories gathered from across the nation. Musical Exploration with Xylophones

During the week of fall break, kids can learn to play xylophones and other percussion instruments in a group setting. This four-day workshop will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning Monday, October 2 at 2:00 PM. Registration is required to participate. Space is limited, and attendance at all four sessions is required as the lessons to learn the instruments build on one another. To register, stop by the library to sign up, or call the library at 859-238-7323 and ask for the youth department to register. This event is offered in partnership with Danville Children’s Choir. (Grades 3-5)

Baby Storytime

Join us at the library for our brand new Baby Storytime this fall! Each week at Baby Storytime, Ms. Rachael will read themed stories and have a sensory activity for babies from birth to 16 months and their parents or guardians to enjoy! Baby Storytime will be held in the Community Room with the books & theme changing each week.

Flash-Fiction Horror Writing Workshop

In this four-part workshop, writers can learn to write a fiction short story centered on the genre of horror and suspense under the guidance of local author Paul Stansbury. These stories will be even shorter than normal; made to be presented in 10 minutes or less, and will be shared with the community. The first session will be held on Tuesday, October 3 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Remaining sessions will be held on October 5, 12, and 17. Stories will be shared at the library’s fall bonfire on October 21. This workshop will be held in the Conference Room (Ages 18+)

Author Visit with Juliana Gaddis

From debut talent Juliana Gaddis and New York Times bestselling illustrator John Joseph comes the story of two families with identical minivans (save for one tiny bumper sticker) who unknowingly switch vehicles for the day when their respective toddlers swap key fobs at the grocery store. With sparse text and bright, cinematic art, Minivan Mix-Up weaves a silly (and relatable) story about two different families celebrating their commonality and ultimately finding friendship. Join us at the library on Wednesday, October 4 at 11:00 AM for a reading by the author, followed by a book signing provided by Plaid Elephant Books. This event will be held in the Youth Department. Adult D&D

Come play the greatest role-playing game ever made. Invent your character and guide them through fantastic adventures limited only by your imagination and the bounds of the story. Event occurs on the 2nd and 4th Sunday each month in two time slots each day. Time slot 1 is 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Time slot 2 is 4:30 to 7:30 PM. Registration is required. Spaces are limited. Registrants may select which time works best for them. More times may be added as they can be accommodated. Sessions are run in-person at the Boyle County Public Library. NEVERMORE - Edgar Allen Poe Dramatic Reading

Come experience the thrills and chills of the Granddaddy of American Gothic Horror on Tuesday, October 10 at the Boyle County Public Library. Enjoy light refreshments and door prizes as Center Stage Theatrics presents NEVERMORE, the spine-tingling, selected dramatic reading of Edgar Allen Poe. We look forward to seeing everyone (ages 16 and up) as we kick off this Halloween season in the best way possible. Refreshments will be served from 6:30-7:00 with the performance beginning at 7:00 PM.

SPARK! Innovation Expo

As part of the SPARK Places of Innovation exhibit, the Library is hosting an Innovation Expo. Students in grades K-12 are invited to either present an innovation or come up with an innovation of their own. Grades K-5: Work on your own to present an innovation. Innovation can be anything. Think outside the box. Grades 6-12: Work on your own or with a team to come up with an innovation. Can be as realistic or fantastical as you would like. Frank X Walker Visual Art Reception

In partnership with Danville Schools, the Boyle County Public Library will host an opening reception for the Frank X Walker Visual Art Exhibit, taking place in conjunction with the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival. The exhibit will feature numerous multi-dimensional pieces by Frank X Walker. The exhibit will be on display at the library October 17-October 28. All are invited to attend the opening reception. Light refreshments will be served.

Third Thursdays in Downtown Danville

With great restaurants, beautiful parks and green spaces, a thriving arts center, and vibrant businesses, Downtown Danville is the place to be - especially on the Third Thursday of each month! Every Third Thursday, your downtown retailers and restaurants will stay open until 8pm (or later) with special promotions and events happening in the businesses downtown. Make it a night out with friends and/or family and enjoy all that Danville has to offer.

Boyle County Extension Office Trunk or Treat

Join us for Trunk or Treat at the Boyle County Extension Office located at 99 Corporate Drive Danville, KY 40422. There will be free candy, pumpkin decorating, face painting, yard games, pet costume contest, and more! There will also be food trucks available to purchase food from. This is a family event open to all ages and people!

10th Annual Pints for Pets

Monster Bash

Bring the whole family to this super special, spooky event! Celebrate all things bone-rattling, spine-tingling, and spooky-ooky! Starting at 4:30 PM and going until 7:30 PM, we’ll have zombie face painting, spooky crafts, monster mashing in the parking lot with instruction by Out There Creative Arts & Dance, and a spooky movie suitable for all! We’ll also have a special activity just for tweens and teens!

LIGHTWIRE Theatre

We begin with Aesop's classic fable of The Tortoise and the Hare but continue the story which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern day distractions. Smart phones & video games create a new landscape of loss connections to life experiences. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior & Lil' Hare in a while new kind of race; where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their difference to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line? With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling, and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new brilliant light. The group combines theatre and technology to bring stories to life in complete darkness and are internationally recognized for their signature brand of electroluminescent artistry.

Disney Pixar’s Coco in Concert on Tour features a screening of the complete film with Oscar® and Grammy®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s musical score performed by the 20-member Latin ensemble, Orquesta Folclórica Nacional de México. Library Trick-or-Treat

Families with toddlers, kids, tweens, and teens, come dressed in your best costume to trick or treat for candy throughout the whole library! Start at the Children’s Department to pick up a free library bag, while supplies last! Trick or treating inside the library will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM.

BCPL After Dark: 859 Paranormal-Library Ghost Hunt

Local paranormal investigation team, 859 Paranormal, visits this October to investigate the Boyle County Public Library for paranormal activity in this after dark special. Our doors open to the public at 9PM. Prior to the investigation, patrons will tour the library while the paranormal team will discuss their process, their history, and their equipment, maybe even some prior paranormal experiences. Once the event ends at 11 pm, the crew will spend the night in the library, searching for paranormal activity, then share their findings at the library on November 2nd at 6PM.
