[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Danville's Sister City!

Danville's Sister City: Cerrickfergus

Danville's Sister City is Cerrickfergus, Northern Ireland. You've probably seen the sign as you head into town.
But what does that mean for our community? It means sharing ideas, education, talent and more. It means making geographically unlikely friends and building relationships that inspire!

Cerrickfergus is a large town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, approximately 11 miles from Belfast. It is one of the oldest towns in Ireland and is well-known by its rich history and the beautiful Carrickfergus Castle built in 1177, which still sits near the shore. Through the Sister Cities International Organization, which aims to create global relationships based on cultural, educational, information and trade exchanges through person-to-person "citizen diplomacy", Danville was twinned with Cerrickfergus back in 2009. Since then, the Danville Sister Cities Commission has formed close relationships with their counterparts in Ireland and participated in such activities as artist, student and musician exchanges, student trips and adult visits.

To celebrate this relationship, the Sister Cities Commission is inviting the community to a GRAND EVENING OF IRISH PUB MUSIC. Through the Sister Cities Music Exhange Program, four Irish Musicians will be performing at Morley's Backyard (234 E Walnut) on November 9th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Danville musicians, who just returned from an exchange week in Ireland, will also perform! All people of all ages are welcome.

In addition to this event, The Sister Cities Commission is looking forward to its fifth trip to Ireland in the Spring and will host another student exchange in the coming months.
