Visit the Art Center in March for new exhibits, classes, workshops, and more!
DANVILLE, Ky. — March brings new opportunities to explore creativity, build skills and plan for summer at the Art Center of the Bluegrass.
A new exhibit, The Gathering Artists: What We See, inspired by the work of renowned glass artist Stephen Rolfe Powell, will be on display March 2 through April 11 in the Grand Exhibit Hall. An opening reception will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 6. Guests are invited to find inspiration from the exhibit and present it during Poetry Connected: The Gathering Artists, will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. March 20. These events are free and open to the public.
The Gathering Artists is a coalition of creatives from Danville and surrounding communities who meet monthly to share ideas and foster artistic support. The exhibit features paintings and two-dimensional works inspired by Powell’s vibrant use of color.
Tea blender, writer and historian Bruce Richardson will visit Tuesday, March 3, for Lunch with the Arts. The noon program will feature a discussion titled “Tea, Art and Architecture in Victorian Glasgow.” Richardson is the founder of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas and has presented at institutions including the Frist Museum, The Albuquerque Museum and The Museum of American Arts & Crafts. He also serves as Tea Master for the Boston Tea Party Ships Museum and is a contributing editor for TeaTime magazine.
In late February, the Art Center delivered a glass artwork from the Stephen Rolfe Powell Collection to the Frazier Kentucky History Museum for inclusion in its “120 Cool KY Counties” exhibit. The piece represents Boyle County and will remain on view for one year.
The public is invited to an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, to learn more about the Art Center’s rental spaces, including the Murrini Café, Grand Hall and upcoming Ballroom.

The City of Danville partners with Kentucky Utilities for Spring Tree Planting
The City of Danville and the Danville Tree Fund are partnering ,once again, with Kentucky Utilities (KU) through its Plant for the Planet program to plant new trees across the community and continue strengthening Danville’s status as a Tree City USA.
This spring, the partnership will result in 30 new large shade trees planted along sidewalks and in neighborhoods throughout Danville. Kentucky Utilities is contributing $2,500 through its Plant for the Planet matching grant program, helping local fundraising efforts go further and making it possible to plant strong, longer-lasting trees.
Local support is also provided by the Community Foundation of Louisville and its Wilderness Trace Community Foundation, along with Boyle County Extension Services, the Danville Garden Club, and other community partners. The City of Danville expects to begin planting in early Spring and will manage long-term maintenance to ensure the trees thrive.
KU’s Plant for the Planet program, inspired by the United Nations Environment Programme’s global Billion Tree Campaign, supports nonprofits and local governments with matching grants for tree-planting projects that enhance communities while protecting utility infrastructure.
Each year, the City of Danville, and its partners, work to expand the city’s tree canopy, improving walkability, and helping make Danville greener, healthier, and more beautiful for residents and visitors alike.
