Business Spotlight:
Plaid Elephant Books

116 N 3rd Street

Kate Snyder opened Plaid Elephant Books on 3rd street in 2021.
"Like so many people, I was stuck at home, working remotely, missing my friends and the social fabric of our community, and thinking a lot about what we wanted the world to look like once we made it through COVID. Participating in the CentreWorks' Liftoff program helped me take those feelings and transform them into a business plan!", says Snyder.

Through CentreWorks Liftoff Program, which helps those interested in starting a business understand the process, and develop a plan for action, Kate was challenged to listen to the community. Through her time as a volunteer with the Heart of Danville, Kate was familiar with many community members and business-owners. So, she took the time to listen to those citizens and determine what Danville wanted and needed. She quickly learned that Danville's citizens valued reading - which is evident by the incredible library - and they wanted to be able to shop locally for books for their families. Plaid Elephant Books has books and activities for every reading level, from baby books to young adults, and often hosts "story time", craft workshops and other fun events for children and families.

Plaid Elephant Books will celebrate its 2nd anniversary on Saturday, August 5 with a "birthday party" for the shop mascot, Penelope the Elephant. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 2p.m. for treats, crafts, prizes and fun!

Other upcoming events:

Ladies Night Out - Thursday, August 17

For Third Thursdays in August, Plaid Elephant Books will join other downtown businesses in hosting a Ladies Night Out shopping event. Enjoy 20% off store-wide.
