The City of Danville celebrates retirement of long-time Fire Chief

Home Posted on August 29, 2025

Chief Doug Simpson began as a part-time firefighter in 2003 before quickly accepting a full-time position the following year. Through the years, he served as Lieutenant, Battalion Chief, Fire Marshal, and Deputy Chief before accepting the Chief role in 2020.

During a recognition ceremony at the August 25th, Interim Chief, Mike McCurdy said these words of Chief Simpson, "You've been a steady hand in times of crisis, a mentor to countless men and women in the fire service, and a source of comfort to families in their most difficult times. Beyond the emergencies and long nights, you've built something even more important. You've built a family. The Danville Fire Department is stronger, braver, and better because of your leadership. You've set an example that will continue to inspire long after today. "

The Danville City Commission, City of Danville staff, community members and, most of all, the members of the City of Danville's Fire Department echo this sentiment. We are grateful for Chief Simpson's legacy of leadership and wish him all the best in his retirement.
