As part of our ongoing commitment to maintain a high quality of life for our citizens through cost-effective, innovative systems, contractors working for the City are implementing an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system for our water utility. To date, approximately 35% of the meters have been addressed and we will continue to upgrade meters during the next quarter.
The project includes enhancing nearly every residential and commercial water meter in the city with new, state-of-the art technology that can wirelessly communicate usage data to the utility. During the month of March, we will continue upgrading the system in Meter Books 10 to 16 (see map on website for areas covered in each book), and the change out process will continue by book for the next six months to until completion. Once installed, advanced meter technology will be able to collect multiple remote meter reads per day, allowing for better leak detection and improved customer service.
We will continue to make every effort to notify property owners 7 to 14 business days prior to installation. The most effective way to make sure you know if your home or area is being changed is to visit our website or connect to our Facebook Page. If the meter is located inside your home, please make sure an adult (18 or older) is home to provide access to our service technician. Before leaving the site, door hangers will be left at the main entrance to the property informing the residents of the status of the visit.
Our drinking water in the community will remain safe throughout the project.
