Sewer Utility
The Danville water / sewer utility consists of these four departments, wastewater rehab, wastewater treatment, water distribution, and water treatment.
The wastewater rehab department is responsible for the maintenance of sanitary sewer lines and sewer lift stations. General maintenance on sewer lines include running a camera through to indicate blockages and then removing those blockages with line roding and flushing machines. The rehab also inspects lift stations on a daily basis and perform general maintenance on the stations.
The sewer treatment department is located at the Samuel Garret Memorial Treatment Plant on Stanford Rd. It is a 6 million gallon per day plant that uses a UV light system to disinfect wastewater. The sewer treatment department also maintains two lagoons used for temporary storage and agitation.
The water distribution department maintains water lines, hydrant, valves, and meters. They repair broken or damages lines, hydrant, and valves. The distribution department also is responsible for reading water meters, performing "Turn Ons" & "Turn Offs", repairing broken meters, and installing new meters.
The water treatment department is located in the Watkins - Coldiron Memorial Treatment Plant on Lexington Ave. It is 10 million gallon per day plant that uses MIOX (Mixed Oxidant) as a disinfectant. MIOX is produced on site and is much safer alternative to chlorine gas which was used in the past. The treatment department also is responsible for maintaining 8 storage towers with over 5 million gallons of storage and a standpipe tower.
