Codes Enforcement today addresses a wide range of issues which affect our environment, health, safety, property values, and general well being. Community preservation and improvement are now recognized as necessary to halt or reverse the deterioration of our surroundings. The objective of Code Enforcement is to obtain voluntary compliance for municipal codes.

Prosecuting a code violation is the least efficient way to guarantee an improved community. Therefore, education and guidance are the primary services rendered by a Code Enforcement Officer. Punitive action should only be taken as a last resort, and then only with reason and restraint.

Responsibilities
Our department’s areas, which we focus on, are:

• Codes complaints
• Collecting insurance premium tax and parking fees for surface lots and the parking garage
• Registration of businesses
• Day-to-day operations of the parking garage
• Serving as local administrators for alcoholic beverage control
